The declaration of a worldwide pandemic by the World Health Organization in 2020 led a large number of U.S. residents to stock up on canned food, bottled water, and household goods. Some of these men and women realized they could really use extra cabinet space in the kitchen because there was no convenient place to store all of those extra products. The idea of continuing to have a large supply of extra food and other items seems sensible now. They may want to remodel the home to include several more kitchen cabinets.
Cabinet Pantries
Cabinet pantries are available that function very similarly to the old-fashioned pantry situated just off the kitchen or in a basement. Although it is not an actual closet or a small room, a cabinet pantry significantly increases storage space for food in cans, boxes, and other containers. They come in a few specific styles.
Three Pantry Designs
One design has a shelving unit that is pulled out from the cabinet, making it easy to reach everything inside. The second has shelves that pull out individually. This is convenient, since the weight is much lighter, but finding a particular item may require pulling out several shelves. The third design is essentially like a shallow wardrobe with shelves. Since the shelves do not pull out, people generally do not want them to reach too far back in the cabinet.
Possibilities for Pantry Usage
With this additional space, the household residents can buy extra food items whenever stores offer the products at a discount. It may be possible to store some of the small appliances in the new cabinetry instead of keeping so many devices on the new granite countertops that are included in the renovation.
Appliances that are used daily or nearly so could be kept out, while the others can be tucked away. Someone in the household might drink coffee every day and make a fruit smoothie in a blender. Another person might eat toast nearly every day. In contrast, a bread machine and a waffle iron could be brought out as needed.
Advantages of the Remodeling Project
Being able to stock up on food helps everyone feel more secure during uncertain times. There's no need to make numerous trips to the grocery store each week since a plentiful supply is already in the kitchen. The countertops look sleek and uncluttered with most of the small appliances and utensils hidden behind cabinet doors.
